5.45 at the Sir Kenneth Green Library (3rd Floor) Manchester Metropolitan University
Simon Lawrence was once a Social Worker and became seduced by printing and publishing at a tender age. He now can???t do anything else, and so is about to celebrate 30 years of running the Fleece Press. A wide variety of books have appeared under this imprint, mostly relating to wood engravers, printmakers and the war artists of the Second World War, with about eight miniatures. The most recent books weigh five kilos (Eric Ravilious: Landscape, Letters & Design - two volumes, 528 pages, 180,000 words) and a few grams (Swarbrick???s List of Yorkshire Flies, 1807; miniature book, 70 pages). The Press has developed over the years, and Simon will survey the books of the past thirty years; though he finds it hard to foresee the future, celebrating survival is certainly within his capacity.
