5.45 for 6.15 at the John Rylands Library, Deansgate.

Access to up to date, reliable research information is vital in making sure that everyone can get the best healthcare available. In the west we take this for granted. Institutions  and medical staff in developing countries cannot afford to buy the research periodicals they need for this purpose. Under a UN scheme ??? Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative (HINARI), set up in 2000, libraries can access a core set of medical and health literature at either no or very low cost to themselves.
Steve Glover,  Library and Education Facilities Manager at the Christie Hospital runs workshops to train librarians, medical and nursing staff in searching the digital databases of periodicals holding this important information and using it for the benefit of their patients. He will talk about his experiences, mainly in Africa.
